Prof. Dr. Wolfhart Niemeyer

Prof. Dr. Wolfhart Niemeyer, born on 26th of July 1923, studied medcine after his army medical service from 1940 to 945. He was injured 3 times rescuing wounded soldiers. He financed his study and livelihood as portrait-painter, organizer of dog-racing, and coal carrier during the Berlin airlift.

1955 he started his ENT-education at the University hospital of Marburg, qualified as unversity lecturer, was appointed professor of ENT, and became director of the audiology department.

Niemeyer was on of the most famous audiologist in Germany. His scientific activities included many publications, books, and mongraphs on speech audiometry, noise induced hearing loss, impedance measurements, and the rehabilitation of deaf people.

He excelled in the education of ENT-physicians, in social activities in many delveloped and developing countries, and in professional political functions.

Ha wa a co-founder, of IAPA in 1980 in Wiesbaden, and became the first President of this association.
