As one of the founders of the British Association of Audiological Physicians (BAAP) and of IAPA, Professor Taylor has made a considerable contribution to Audiological Medicine. He has also played a significant role in the development of associated professions. Working initally with Professor Alexander Ewing and Lady Ewing at the University of Manchester, UK, in 1964 hes was appointed Ellis Llwyd Professor in Education of the Deaf at the University. In the years that followed the Bachelor of Arts degree in Education of the Deaf, the Batchelor of Science course in Speech Pathology and Masters courses in Clinical Audiology and in Audiological Medicine were started within his department. Where the latter course is concerned this was a world first. Many students passed through the Department before his retirement in 1988 and these graduates have been influential in the development of audiological, speech therapy and deaf education service in many parts of the world.

Professor Taylor had a number of research interests but, in particular, he was responsable for one of the first population-based investigations of the causes of sensorineural hearing impairment in infants and young children. In later years he turned his attention to noise induced hearing loss and this interest has continued beyond his retirement from the University.

Today, whilst enjoying a more peaceful life in the Cheshire countryside in Britain with is wife and the nearby presence of his two doughters and his grandchildren, he countinues to keep abreast with current research and to take an interest in developments in the specialty of Audiological Medicine.
