Minutes of the 9th General Assembly of the International Association of Physicians in Audiology held in Welsh Hearing Institute, Cardiff, September 22nd 1993.

and 38 Members of the Association

1. Apologies of the absence were received from Alf Axelsson and Åke Reimer (from the executive).

2. Minutes of the 8th General Assembly held in Pacs 1991 were approved.

3. Matters arising;

Iapa Prize proposed in Pecs has not yet been given due to the economic situation of the association.
No report has been obtained from the working group on Audiological Evaluation of Surgical Treatment set up in Pecs.

4. Secretary General's Report;

The proposition of EC recognition of Audiological Medicine has been made by audiological physicians from EC countries.

5. Treasurer's Report;

In the absence of Åke Reimer, José Barajas, the assistant treasurer, gave a report of the economic situation of the association having a negative balance of SEK 1220. To overcome the deficit it was decided to raise the annual membership fee to US$ 40.

6. Membership;

For the time being the association has abot 200 members. Since the previous General Assembly 49 new members have joined the association.
There are five Honorary members; W. Keidel (Germany), G. Lidén (Sweden), A. Glorig (USA), I. Taylor (UK), and W. Niemeyer (Germany). Ron Hinchcliffe (UK) was elected as a new Honorary Member.

7. Officers;

According to the proposal made by the executive Alf Axelsson was elected as the President, Giorgio Grisanti as the Past-president, Dai Stephens as the new Vice-President, José Barajas as the new Treasurer. Tapani Jauhiainen will continue as the Secretary General.

8. Future Symposia;

1995 Symposium will be held on the invitation of Suchitra Prasansuk in Chiang Rai in northern Thailand December 30th 1995 through January 3rd 1996. The topic chosen by the organizer will be; Tropical Audiological Medicine - an update. The General Assembly proposed a number of topics and voted in favour of Rehabilitation of Hearing Impaired Children, the moderator will be Walerie Newton. The third topic will be a training topic.

1997 Symposium has been invited to Denmark and will be held Aalborg, from 25th to 28th of May. The organizers has chosen topics of Noise and Otoacoustic emissions. The General Assembly will choose a topic in the next Meeting in Thailand.

No concreate invitation has been received for the Symposiums in 1999 or 2001 as yet.

9. Journal;

Linda Luxon (Editor) gave a report on the Journal and urged members to submit papers for publication in the Journal.

10. Hearing International;

Pal Kapur gave a report on Hearing International, a new angency for the prevention of deafness initiated in cooperation with other international organisations such as IFOS. The General Assembly agreed that the association should affiliate to the Hearing International.

12. Date and place of the next General Assembly; Chiang Rai, Thailand, the exact date will be announced later.
