GENERAL ASSEMBLY

Minutes of the 6th General Assembly of the International Association of Physicians in Audiology held in Hotel Botanico, Puerto de la Cruz, Tenerife, on Thursday 12th of November 1987.

6.1 - Apologies for absence were received from Giorgio Grisanti, Vice-President.

6.2 - Minutes of the 5th meeting held in Visby, Sweden were approved and signed.

6.3 - Matters Arising;

EEC recognition of Audiologcial Medicine was reviewed by the President. At the moment for EEC recognition the minimum requirement is the recognintion in five of the member countries. Audiological Medicine is now recognized in two of the EEC countries.

Global Impact Programme was also reviewed by the President and the work by the IFOS Committee for prevention of deafness in the developing countries. It was considered appropriate that IAPA supports training given in the centers of Bangkok, Malmö, Bari and Mexico City.

6.4 - Secretary General's Report;

There are 132 registered members in the Association of which 60 have paid their membership fees.
There are five sustaining members. In addition there are four honorary members: W.D. Keidel, Aram Glorig, Harald Ewertsen and Bengt Barr.
Wolfgang Bechtholdt, an Honorary Member of the Association and President of the International Academy of Audiology founded in Bad Nauheim, F.R.G. has died October 1st 1986 at the age of 64 ear. W. Niemeyer spoke to his memory and the Assembly honoured his memory.

National Representives represent 37 countries and new member countries joining the Association, such as Indonesia and Cuba.

6.5 - Treasurer's Report showed a balance of ........SEK. The problem of collecting membership fees was discussed.

6.6 - Officers of the Association;

Officers elected in the 5th General Assembly are due to continue for the next ter, namely:

  • Ron Hinchcliffe as the President
  • Wolf Niemeyer as the Past-President
  • Giorgio Grisanti as the Vice-President
  • Dai Stephens as the Editor of the Bulletin
  • Åke Reimer as the Treasurer, and
  • Tapani Jauhiainen as the Secretary-General

6.7 - Future Symposia;

1989 Symposium will be held in Rottach-Egern in F.R.G. April 30th to May 4th 1989. The main topics will cover: Audiological Training for General Practioners, Evoked Oto-acoustic Emission. The third topic was suggested and discussed in the General Assembly, whereby the theme: Vestibular Function in Auditory Disorders was voted for.

6.8 - Bulletin;

The Editor of the Bulletin Dai Stephens reported of the editorial work and requested members to submit reports and news to the Bulletin. No 6 has now been distributed and No 7 is under preparation.

6.9 - Any Other business;

Agnete Parving from Denmark supported by Peter Alberti from Canada suggested a working group on the question of : Epidemiology of Childhood Hearing Loss, which was one of the topics of the Tenerife Symposium. Agnete Parving was elected as the coordinatior for this working group.

6.10 - Date and place of next meeting;

Next General Assembly will take place in Rottach-Egern on Wednesday May 3rd 1989.
