Minutes of the 7th General Assembly of the International Association of Physicians in Audiology held in Palazzo dei Congressi, Sirmione May 1st 1990.

7.1 - Apologies for absence was received from Wolf Niemeyer, Past-President and Åke Reimer, Treasurer.

The Assembly honoured the memory of Ole Bentzen, founding member of the Association and previous Treasurer, and Harald Ewertsen, Honorary Member of the Association.

7.2 - Minutes of the 6th meeting held in Puerto de la Cruz, Tenerife were approved.

7.3 - Secretary - General's Report;

The cancellation of the Symposium which was scheduled to take place in 1989 in Rottach-Egern was notified due to a limited number of registrations.

It was proposed that the present Extraordinary Symposium would be designated the 5th, the proposition was approved.

The number of members of the Association amounts to some 160 of which 60 are paid members. There are 5 sustaining members and 3 Honorary members namely; W.D. Keidel from Germany, Bengt Barr from Sweden and Aram Glorig from USA. There are representatives from 42 nations.

7.4 - Treasurer's Report;

Assets amount to SEK 32.087,15. Expenses last year amount to SEK 16.440,46 including printing and mailing of the Bulletin and costs for Executive Committee meeting arranged extraordinarily because of the cancelled symposium in 1989. The Treasurer's report was approved.

7.5 - Future Symposia;

The 6th Symposia will be held in Pecs, Hungary May 14th through May 17th 1991 organized by professor Bauer as the President and prof. Pytel as the Vice-President. The main topics will be:

  1. Topical diagnosis in audiology, moderated by professor Bauer.
  2. Audilogical training for pediatricians, moderated by professor hirschberg, and
  3. Audilogical evaluation of otosurgical procedures, chosen by the General Assembly and moderated by professor Colletti. This topic was suggested to deal pre and post-operative evaluation concerning surgery of middle and inner ear excluding prosthetic devices such as cochlear implants.

Professor Hirschberg and Dr. Farkas are arranging a pre-congress satellite meeting in Budapest May 12th on pediatric audiology.

The 7th Symposium will be held in Cardiff, Wales September 1993 organized by Dr. Stephens. Topics will deal Genetics in audiology and Training in audiology for general practisiners. The 3rd topic will be chosen in Pacs.

The 8th Symposium was invited by professor Suchitra Prasansuk to Thailand in 1995.

7.6 - Bulletin;

The next Bulletin will be coming out soon. Members were requested to provide material for the Bulletin.

7.7 - New Members;

The Executive Committe has approved the applications of 12 new members.

7.8 - New Honorary Members;

The following new honorary members were proposed and approved:

  • Wolf Niemeyer of Germany, Past President and one of the founding members.
  • Gunnar Lidén of Sweden, one of the founding members and Grand Old man of Audiology in Scandinavia.
  • Ian Taylor of UK., one of the founders of audiological medicine in UK., and
  • Laszlo Surijan of Hungary, Grand Old man of Audiology in Hungary and the President of the International Society of Audiology in Budapest in 1972.

7.9 - Officers of the Association;

The four year term of Ron Hinchcliffe as the President is completed and he will follow Wolf Niemeyer as the Past President. He will hand the Chair over to Vice-President Giorgio Grisanti.

The Executive Committe proposes Alf Axelsson from Gothenburg, Sweden as Vice-President. The proposition will be circulated in the Bulletin according to the Constitution. No other propositions were made.

Other officials: Tapani Jauhiainen as Secretary-General, Åke Reimer as Threasurer, Dai Stephens as the Editor of the Bulletin and Sue Bellman as the associate Editor will go on for the next term.

7.10 - Any Other Business;

Thanks were expressed to professor Ricci and professor Colletti for the interesting Symposium in Sirmione and for the arrangements as well as to CRS Amlifon for their contribution to the arrangements.

7.11 - Date and Place for the next General Assembly;

Pecs, Hungary, may 16th 1991. The exact time will be announced in the final programme.
