Minutes of the 8th General Assembly of the International Association of Physicians in Audiology held in Hotel Palatinus, Pécs, Hungary, Friday May 17th 1991 at 14.30.

8.1 - Apologies for absence;
were received from Alf Axelsson (Vice-President), Gunnar Lidén (Honorary Member) and Sue Bellman (Editor of the Bulletin).
8.2 - Minutes of the 7th meeting held in Palazzo dei Congressi, Sirmione, May 1st 1990 were approved.
8.3 - Matters arising; none
8.4 - Secretary-General's Report;
In addition to the topics on the Agenda concerning future symposia and launching of the new Journal, there is nothing else to report.
8.5 - Treasurer's Report;
Assets amount to some SEK 28 000. Treasurer's report was approved. In view of the economic responsibilities of the new Journal membership fee will be discussed in connection of item 10 of the Agenda.
8.6 - New Members;
Since the last General Assembly in Sirmione ten new applications for membership have been approved.
8.7 - Officers;
Proposition for Alf Axelsson to be elected as the Vice-President was circulated in the Bulletin last autumn. No other propositions have been made whereby his nomination is confirmed.
Since Åke Reimer want to withdraw from the post of the Treasurer, José Barajas from Spain was proposed to function as an Assistant Treasurer for a period of two years to take over the position of the Treasurer in the next General Assembly in Cardiff in 1993. The proposition was approved.
8.8 - Future Symposia;
The 7th International Symposium of Audiological Medicine will be held in Cardiff, Wales, September 19th to 22nd 1993. The congress venue will be University Hospital of Wales. Congress President will be Ron Hinchcliffe and Chairman of the Organizing Committee will be Dai Stephens.
The topic selected by the organizers will be: Genetic Hearing Loss, The training topic will be: Training in Audiology for Primary Physicians.
The General Assembly proposed and voted for the third topic to be: Management of Vestibular Disorders proposed by George Gavalas from Greece, who will also be the moderator.
1995 Symposium has been invited to Thailand by prof. Prasansuk. Since she is not present, no further details are available.
1997 Symposium was invited to Denmark by Bo Walter.
1999 Symposium was invited to Palermo by Giorgio Grisanti. Also Portugal was proposed to host the 10 Symposium since Portugal was the first country to organise IAPA Symposium in 1981.
8.9 - Bulletin;
The final issue of the Bulletin will be published in autum 1991.
8.10 - Journal;
Journal of Audiological Medicine to be launched in 1992 will be published by Whurr Publishers Ltd in UK. The Editors of the Journal will be Dai Stephens with co-editors Vittorio Colletti (Italy) and Linda Luxon (UK).
The agreement with the publisher requires a guarantee of the minimum of 200 subscriptions by the Association. That implies that the membership fee needs to be raised and many more new members need to recruited. 30 USD was proposed for the new membership fee and approved.
Members were incouraged to submit papers for publication in the new Journal.
As proposed by Giorgio Grisanti a Biennial IAPA prize was approved to be given to a young (up to 40 years of age) physician submitting an orginal paper in the new Journal. The Editors and the Executive Committee will fucntion as the judging committee.
8.11 - Working Group Report;
Criteria Concerning Hearing Impairment/Disability in Children. Ron Hinchcliffe in absence of Agnete Parving gave a brief statement. The report will be circulated and it was proposed that it would be open for more disscussion in the next Symposium in Cardiff.
8.12 - Any Other Business:
Vittorio Colletti proposed a Working Group: Audiological Evaluation of Surgical Treatment, the proposition was approved with Colletti, Hinchcliffe and Reimer as members.
Ron Hinchcliffe proposed that in every symposium of IAPA there would be one topic dealing eith Vestibular aspects.
8.13 - Date and place of the next Genarl Assembly;
Cardiff, September 1993. The exact place and date will be announced later.
