Minutes from the General Assebly March 8th 2005 held att the XII International IAPA Symposium in Lyon.
  • The IAPA President Jose Barajas opened the General Assembly by welcoming the 30 IAPA members present.
  • The President welcomed the new members from the National associations in Denmark and Sweden. The chairperson of the Swedish association Inger Uhlen replied and informed the meeting about the Swedish Association. The Secretary Konrad S. Konradsson informed the meeting that IAPA is, apart from the new Danish and Swedish members, constantly receiving applications from new members from all over the world through the Internet website and that the number of IAPA members is rapidly approaching 350.
  • The secretary informed the Assembly of the wish of Agnete Parving to step down as the Vice-president. The EC had, during its meeting two days before, regretfully accepted her withdrawal. The President then proposed to the General Assembly that Professor Linda Luxon, London, UK should be elected as Vice-president and the Assembly unanimously agreed. The officers of the Executive Committee are:

    • Hon. Treasurer - Bo Walter (elected 2002)
    • Hon. Secretary - Konrad S. Konradsson (elected 2002)

  • The Secretary presented the proposals of the EC regarding the ratification of the IAPA constitution. The IAPA members have been previously informed of the ratification of the IAPA constitution by informing the IAPA News and the proposed changes have been posted on the IAPA Internet Website for the last two years. The President and the Secretary informed the Assembly that the ratification of the IAPA constitution is an ongoing process and that the EC will propose further changes in the coming months. The Assembly then accepted the ratification of the IAPA constitution.
  • The Treasurer Bo Walter presented the set of accounts for IAPA for the years 2002, 2003 and 2004. The financial situation of the IAPA is sound, as the expenses of the Association have been kept to minimum during the last years. It was agreed that the annual subscription of 50 Euros should be maintained.
  • The President then brought up the three themes for the XIII International IAPA Symposium to be held in March 200 in Mexico. The decision of the local organiser Pedro Berruecos was, that the first theme would be "The present situation of neonatal hearing screening in the developed and developing countries" with the possibility of Inviting Andrew Smith of the WHO to the Symposium. The Assembly was then informed of the previous proposal of the EC of the theme "Noise as a public health problem" as the second theme and the proposed moderator Mariola Sliwinska-Kowalska. Other alternatives of themes were presented to the Assembly. It was then the decision of the Assembly to propose "Assessment and management of central auditory disorders" as the third theme. The EC proposes Tony Sirimanna as moderator. It was felt by the Assembly that the theme "Hearing loss and its treatment in ancient civilizations" would fit well as a keynote presentation.
  • The President then informed the Assembly of the proposal of the EC that the XIV International IAPA Symposium would be in Poland with Mariola Sliwinska-Kowalska as organiser, which was accepted by the Assembly.
  • The Secretary then informed the Assembly that the subsequent business meeting was cancelled since the invited guest: the President of the UEP, Manfred Gross was prevented by illness to join the meeting.
  • The President then asked the Assembly if there were other matters or subjects to be discussed and there were none.
  • Finally the President and the Secretary proposed the election of Agnete Parving as an Honorary Life Member of the IAPA and the Assembly unanimously agreed.
  • The next IAPA General Assembly will be held during the XIV International IAPA Symposium in Mexico City.
