Minutes of the 3rd. General Meeting of the International Association of Physicians in Audiology, held in Finlandia Hall, Helsinki, on Thursday, the 27th of May 1982.

3.1 - Apologies for Absence: were received from W. Niemeyer, A. Colletti, A. Morgon, S. Prasansak, K. Rejtö and T. Spillman.
3.2 - Minutes of the 2nd meeting: were approved and signed.
3.3 - Matters Arising: Nil
3.4 - Secretary General's Report: The Secretary General reported on the Executive Committee meeting held in London on the th and 6th of February 1982. The meeting was concerned with the planning of the Verona Conference and other items which were dealt with elsewhere on the Agenda. The meeting was attended by Niemeyer, Bentzen, Colletti, Hoke, Hinchcliffe and Stephens.
The Secretary General reported that while the paper membership of the Association exceeded 100, only 30 subscriptions had actually been received.
The Secretary reported on the first two Bulletins he had produced with a print run of 200 for the first and 150 for the second. The frist had been sent to all members, the second had been sent only to National Representatives and members who had paid their subscriptions.
3.5 - Treasurer's Report:

- Sustaining Members: It was agreed that these should be asked to pay 1000 Swiss Francs every two years.

- Amplifon: It was reported that opposition to IAPA had been axpressed by Amplifon and other European hearing aid manufacturers because of certain views expressed by members of IAPA.
It was agreed that the Secretary General publish an editorial on the political position of IAPA in the next Bulletion and send a copy of this together with a covering letter to Mr. Charles Holland, President of Amplifon.

- First Symposium - Lisbon, 1981: Dr. Paulo Pisarro reported that there had been 94, participants but no commercial exhibition at the Lisbon Symposium.
The Symposium had lost money but the deficit had been made up by the Portuguese Tourist Board.

- International Academy for Audiology: This was to be established under the auspices of IAPA and the European Academy for Postgraduate Medical Education together with Dr. Lundborg representing the International Society of Audiology.
The Academy was to be founded on June the 2nd, 1982 and it was planned that the first course would be held January-February, 1983.
Concern was expressed that the exact relationship with IAPA should be clearly spelled out and it was agreed that, when available, the English version of the final Constitution should be circulated to all National Representatives with comments sent to the Secretary General.
Considerable discussion ansued as to the functions and role of the Academy but it was clearly flet that officials involvement of IAPA should be avoided until all its ramifications had been clearly considered by the members of IAPA.

- 2nd. International Symposium - Sirmione: Dr. Hoke reported that this would include both invited and submitted papers. If possible, parallel sessions would be avoided. Invited papers should be of 30 minutes duration, submitted papers 15 minutes.
There would be no simultaneus translation.

- Advances in Audiology: This was to be published by Karger and edited by Manfred Hoke. It would be similar on outline to Advances in Otolaryngology.
The proceedings of the Sirmione Symposium will be published in this. A separate number will also include the proceedings of the Erlangen Symposium on Cochlear Implant, scheduled for September, 1983.

- Any Other Business:

- Paolo Pisarro: proposed the establisment of IAPA study groups on specific topics, and that each Symposium be centred around such study groups.
It was agreed that Dr. Pisarro's proposals be published in the IAPA Bulletin and the matter more fully discussed at Sirmione.

- Denis Hennebert: reported that Dr. Marquet had requested an IAPA nominee for his meeting devoted to standardisation of the evaluation of surgical procedures to be held in 1984. It was agreed that Professor Hennebert represent IAPA.

- The Next Meeting: will be held in Sirmione in April, 1983.
